This multi-dimensional replica of a cigar band is truly a labor of love. Intensely detailed, it's fully loaded with all kinds of goodies. It is layered with many differing substrates, and encompasses various old world techniques in it's fabrication. Rich with 23k gold, copper leaf , smaltz (crushed glass) and hints of mother of pearl, every element on this piece pulls together to create a visual feast. The shimmering you see on the outer beveled edges of the panel are a result of engine-turned gold leaf, giving the appeal of a gold foil candy wrapper.

Prism cut bass wood sunrays are half gold and half copper leafed. The leaves are carved HDU, copperleafed, then aged. The ribbon is heat-bent plastic, engraved, gilded and then aged. The "mazeppa" panel is sandblasted HDU, the background smaltzed, the letters gilded, and the dots are mother of pearl. Furniture buttons, scroll cut embellishments, and small matchstick sized pieces of bass wood all lend a part in the complete picture of this masterpiece.
